A New Chapter in an Old Home

We’ve finally done it—we closed on our new (old) home, and I couldn’t be more overjoyed. Nestled in history and brimming with character, she’s 180 years old and everything I ever dreamed of in a colonial revival. To some, she might appear a little too weathered, a little too “perfectly imperfect,” but to me, that’s exactly where her magic lies.

This house is more than real estate. It’s a piece of history, a foundation built long before us, now entrusted to our care. And it’s also a canvas—a place where we’ll weave our story into its walls, where design and memory will blend until the two are inseparable.

Where Past Meets Present

What drew us most to this home wasn’t just its timeless architecture or sprawling grounds—it was the sense that every corner has a story to tell. I imagine the generations who came before us: families gathering by the fireplace, children playing in the yard, voices echoing through the halls. Now, it’s our turn to carry that legacy forward, infusing it with our own laughter, warmth, and creativity.

There’s something deeply grounding about living in a space that has witnessed nearly two centuries of life. Our goal isn’t to erase that history, but to honor it while creating something new. Each room will become a bridge—linking the charm of its 19th-century roots with the modern elegance we envision for our future.

A Home for Family and Friends

Beyond the beams and bricks, this house is meant to be lived in. The spacious grounds will be a playground for our children, a place where they can explore, imagine, and grow up surrounded by nature’s beauty. The cozy nooks are perfect for quiet mornings with coffee in hand, while the expansive living spaces practically beg to be filled with friends, family, and celebrations.

We see this home as more than just ours—it’s a gathering place. A sanctuary where holidays will be celebrated, milestones will be toasted, and everyday moments will become cherished memories. From Sunday dinners to impromptu game nights, this house is ready to hold it all.

A Journey of Transformation

Of course, with an old home comes quirks and challenges, and we’re ready to embrace them wholeheartedly. Every creaky floorboard, every weathered detail tells a story, and while we’ll update and restore, we’ll also preserve. The beauty of this journey will be in the balance—honoring craftsmanship of the past while layering in the personal touches that make it uniquely ours.

For me, design has always been about more than just aesthetics. It’s about creating spaces that reflect who we are and how we want to live. This home will be a living journal of our style and our values—where history, beauty, and functionality meet. And while the grand transformations will be exciting, it’s the small, intimate changes that I’m most looking forward to: hanging family photos, picking the perfect paint color, finding that just-right vintage light fixture.

More Than a House

Standing in these rooms, I can already envision the years ahead—the laughter, the traditions, the inevitable chaos that comes with raising a family. This house represents not just where we live, but how we live. It holds our dreams, our memories yet to be made, and the vision of a future that feels both rooted and full of possibility.

I can’t wait to share this journey with you—the progress, the surprises, the triumphs, and even the challenges—as we bring this colonial revival into its next chapter. Together, we’ll watch as this timeless treasure evolves into a home that reflects not only our aesthetic but the life we’re building within it.

Because in the end, a house is just a structure. It’s the love, the laughter, and the stories inside that turn it into a home. And this one, with all her quirks and grandeur, already feels like ours.
