One of the most delightful parts of preparing for a new baby is the nursery. It isn’t just about paint swatches and furniture placement—it’s about creating a space where tiny dreams will take shape, where laughter will echo, and where quiet moments of love will unfold. For me, designing this nursery became more than decorating a room; it was about imagining the world my little one would wake up to each day.
I wanted a space that would feel magical and timeless, a room where she and I—and of course her big sister, Lucy—could spend hours together discovering stories, singing songs, and enjoying the stillness of babyhood.
From Parisian Garden to English Countryside
Just a little over two and a half years ago, I poured my heart into designing Lucy’s nursery. Her room, inspired by a Parisian Garden, became a dreamy backdrop for her earliest years. I loved how that design reflected her spirit—feminine, bright, and whimsical. But this time, I wanted something different. Two little girls meant two unique personalities, and I wanted each space to feel special, like it had its own identity, while still carrying that thread of enchantment that makes a nursery feel like a fairytale.
When I began imagining the theme for this new nursery, my mind wandered to the English countryside. I pictured a bedroom with vintage charm—woodland creatures peeking out from delicate wallpaper, furniture with an antique feel, and a softness that felt both elegant and inviting. I wanted the room to feel like stepping into the pages of a beloved storybook, one where magic lingers in every corner.
Setting the Foundation with Color and Texture
The very first decision I made was the color scheme. I knew I wanted something monochromatic that could carry the room’s charm without overwhelming it. After sifting through paint samples, I landed on Tissue Pink for the walls and ceiling, a shade that felt gentle yet full of warmth. To complement it, I chose Groundhogs Day in semi-gloss for the trim and doors, both by Benjamin Moore. The combination created a soft, cocoon-like effect that immediately made the room feel cozy and inviting.
Wallpaper was next on my list, and I found myself utterly enchanted by Morris & Co.’s Owl & Willow print. It had just the right balance of whimsy and tradition, but because I had already painted the room, I opted for a framed wallpaper installation instead of covering every wall. This decision turned into one of my favorite details—it brought unexpected height and dimension to the space, transforming it into something truly special.
A Treasured Chandelier and Personal Touches
Every room has that one piece that feels like its heart, and for me, it was a chandelier I had tucked away for years. It’s a Paul Ferrante design that once hung in our Los Angeles home, filling our rooms with light and character for six years. When we moved to New York, it was carefully packed up and stored, waiting for the right moment to shine again. Hanging it in this nursery felt like reconnecting with a piece of our story, a bridge between homes and seasons of life. Seeing it cast its glow over the crib and rocking chair brings me such joy—it feels like the nursery wouldn’t be complete without it.
Feminine Details That Elevate the Space
Of course, no nursery is complete without textiles, and I wanted something timeless yet playful. When Pottery Barn Kids announced their capsule collection with Love Shack Fancy, I knew I had found the perfect match. The collaboration captured everything I envisioned: delicate bows adorning the drapes, scalloped edges on the crib, and fabrics that felt both sophisticated and soft.
Every piece carried a sense of femininity without being fussy, and together, they layered the room with charm. The nursery began to feel like more than a room—it became a world. A place where stories would be read under cozy blankets, where lullabies would be sung in the dim glow of the chandelier, and where my little girl’s earliest memories would begin.
Capturing the Journey
For those who, like me, love the process as much as the finished product, I documented the nursery design day by day in a VLOG format, saved on my Instagram story highlights under “Nursery.” From the painting vendors to the cost breakdown of the framed wallpaper, I shared every detail along the way. It was such a joy to bring others into the process, and I hope it serves as inspiration for anyone dreaming up a nursery of their own.
A Room Waiting for Its Little One
Now, as I stand in the doorway and take it all in—the pink walls, the vintage-inspired wallpaper, the chandelier that glitters with memories, the delicate fabrics that make the space feel alive—I can’t help but feel ready. Ready to meet her, ready to welcome her home, ready to begin this new chapter of life as a family of four.
Just one more week until she arrives. And little one, your room is ready. May it be the place where your sweetest dreams are born.
